Regarding this particular game, that location is usually the override folder located in your documents Bioware Dragon Age folder but can vary depending on the mod itself.
When modding, most of the time, you'll have to extract/unzip the downloaded mod files, and place the extracted/unzipped content into a specific location if modding manually. SO JUST EITHER MANUAL INSTALL WHERE POSSIBLE, USE THE MOD MANAGERS FROM BELOW FOR MANAGER INSTALLS OR USE DAUPDATER FOR MODS THAT REQUIRE THAT METHOD OF INSTALL!!!= SUCH THINGS ARE EITHER LOSS OF CERTAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE GAME OR AN OVERALL UNSTABLE EXPERIENCE!!! THERE IS SOME THAT CLAIM THAT THEY HAVE WORKED AROUND THIS, MAYBE SUCH WORKAROUNDS WORK FOR THEM, BUT NOT FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE.
NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER MOD THIS GAME USING NEXUS MOD MANAGER OR VORTEX!!! ALTHOUGH THEY ARE GREAT MOD MANAGERS FOR MOST GAMES OUT THERE, THIS GAME HATES THOSE MOD MANAGERS, AND WILL NOT PLAY NICE WITH MODS INSTALLED USING SAID MANAGERS!!! MULTIPLE THINGS CAN OCCUR WHEN USING SUCH MANAGERS FOR MOD INSTALLS.
